Good news from ePolitix:The Liberal Democrats are to receive a £2m donation from the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.
The gift will be a major boost to the party, which according to its last accounts filed with the Electoral Commission had just under £300,000 at the end of 2005.
The trust, a charity which funds research into tackling 'social difficulties', has previously given money to Labour and the Greens, and has consistently supported the Lib Dems.
In 2003 it gave the party more than £500,000 to fight the local, Scottish and Welsh elections, and in 2004 and 2005 it donated £250,000.

I think you are getting your Rowntree Trusts mixed up. The Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust (which as you say gives money to the Lib Dems) is deliberately not a charity in order to ensure that it is not constrained in who it donates to. The Reform Trust has endowed the JRSST Charitable Trust to make donations on charitable work related to its work (eg the Power Inquiry) but not political parties.
There is also a seperate JR Charitable Trust which makes donations to a range of progressive charitable projects.
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (also a charity) funds a huge amount of social research.
The JR Housing Trust owns and manages housing around York (principally the model village New Earswick).
I guess this will help the party pay back the brown donation....
