Huhne 1, Campbell 2, Hughes 3, Oaten 4
That is how I shall be voting unless something unexpected happens during the campaign.
Yes this is a perfectly respectable ordering; it is by no means impossible that I shall vote that way myself, although several other orderings are possible for me as well at the moment. I agree with you about Oaten 4. But none of the other three quite convince me:
Hughes - ok politically but would probably balls up the organisation.
Campbell - implicated in the unnecessary publicity given to the discontent with Charles Kennedy, in a way which reflects badly on his competence.
Huhne - quite possibly the best candidate politically and organisationally, but I wonder whether he is wise to stand with such a marginal constituency.
I've no qualms about Huhne's seat.Thorpe played that to good advantage 30yrs ago. I'd probably put Simon ahead of Campbell, but as of today I would go with Huhne 1 & Oaten 4
James: I suspect Bonkers is still trying to hawk one of his old books at a time like this - "Must the leader be a commoner?" It's shocking that you can't at least get better odds on Bonkers than on John Hemming...
Good call.

ReplyDeleteChris is digging in very hard and very successfully follwing the Davey/Lamb/Webb approach to majority building.
ReplyDeleteHe has built a VERY able team around him in his constituency.
Great call - I shall be voting the same way but not giving Oaten a 4th preference. Definately Huhne 1.
