Top author named after reservoir shock

Talking of Kipling, it is not widely known that the great man was named after Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire.

The "lake" is really an artificial reservoir built in 1797 to supply water to the Caldon Canal.

  1. Annually frinds of mine hold a water activiteies weekend on Rudyard (some of them are associated with a Sea Scout group with a facility there)- and I actually assumed they were joking that Rudyard Kipling was named after the "lake".
