there is one thing I will find more pleasurable than seeing the look on Tony Blair's face when he is finally booted out of Downing Street - and that is seeing the look on the Brownites' faces when they eventually twig that the man they've been bigging up these past few years is, if anything, even worse than Blair.

Brown will not turn to gold
Following Robert Harris, another commentator has taken aim at Gordon Brown. Here is Brendan O'Neill on the Guardian's Comment is Free blog:
Gordon thinks that most Labour supporters are so stupid that they'll never realise for many years - by which time he has had his fun.
ReplyDeletePeople chose to forget that Mr Brown voted and backed every single Blair policy. Ok, so he was part of the cabinet and couldn't do otherwise, but he would have had an enormous say on everything that was done.
People forget. Tony Blair is not stupid. He is charismatic and intelligent and capable of wriggling his way out of almost any situation. Gordon Brown is, like you say, just Tony Blair - but I would add, without the false grin.
I remember meeting a (young) Labour Party member who seemed to think that Brown would be the saviour of 'old labour' (the person in question was proud that his grandfather was a communist and that as a baby he'd been taken to picket lines, a real old socialist trade unionist).
ReplyDeleteI wondered then how people could think that...
The only bad word he had against Brown was that he could have prevented Iraq...
