I have always suspected that John Major will be treated more generously by posterity than he has been by his contemporaries. And I am pleased to see him receiving
his share of the credit for Britain's improved performance in the Olympics today.
While we are feeling warm towards him, let me quote an example of his wit (via
Danny Finkelstein):
As John Major pricelessly commented, as Kinnock didn't know what he was saying, he never knew when he had finished saying it.
