Nick's comments display a remarkable degree of ingratitude towards Steve Webb. In such a closely fought leadership election, Steve's support for Nick Clegg may well have been decisive factor as it gave him some credibility with the left wing of the party - in as far as you can identify such a force in a party with so little ideology.
I would have hoped, following the Cleggover episode, that Nick would have learnt to be a little more streetwise about the ways of the media. Clearly, he has not.
As I read the article on Sunday I remember my first bits of advice to new councillors as a press officer.
ReplyDeleteRemember you never know who is listening.....
I honestly don't know how the Lib Dems put up with Clegg. He has no gravitas, no political impact and obviously no common sense either.
ReplyDeleteGood advice from the man who's party chose Major, Hague and IDS in quick succession. And the Tories current beau has seemingly with no particular convictions whatsoever ("these are my opinions, if you don't like them, I've got others")
ReplyDeleteAgree with you, Jonathan. He's sloppy. Thankfully, Chris Huhne is now getting a little more exposure.
ReplyDeleteHmm, 'Letters from a Tory' seems to have got the name wrong in his description of Dave...
ReplyDeleteHey ho.
Anthony: I'm not a Tory, I'm a Lib Dem and have been for 14 years, and LFAT's analysis is spot on. Clegg is worse than useless, he's a liability. If he wasn't, we'd be doing an awful lot better (hard to see how we couldn't be against such a disaster-strewn government and inept, vacuous opposition).
