Trevor Eve in Shoestring

While we are mourning the end of Waking the Dead, here is a glimpse of a much younger Trevor Eve.

Shoestring is the series that made his name. It ran in 1979 and 1980, in two series totalling 21 hour-long episodes.

These are the opening and closing titles. The whole of the first series seems to be on Youtube, but it won't let me embed the videos. So you will have to look there yourself.

  1. It was Trevor Eve's refusal to do a third series of Shoestring that caused the BBC to make Bergerac instead.

Bergerac was set in Jersey and used the former children's home at Haut de la Garenne as the filming location for the Bureau des Etrangers where Bergerac worked.

This building was at the centre of a police investigation after human remains were found buried there, amid allegations of child abuse at the home.

This scandal was, in turn, the subject of numerous Liberal England posts.

    I claim my £5.

  2. Trevor Eve - related claim to fame:

I once coached him on how to write equations describing black holes. It was for a pilot of Doomwatch - an attempt to revive the series by Channel 5. The series wasn't picked up.

    I blame myself of course.
