Guido Fawkes told us the attack on Murdoch was "bound to fail"

We last saw Guido Fawkes leading journalists astray by dispatching them to a non-existent crisis meeting of Eastleigh Lib Dems. They wandered Hampshire for days like lost souls. I still get isolated reports of one turning up, bearded and skeletal, sleeping rough in a downland village.

So let us have a look at Guido's accuracy in other areas. Here he is, for instance, writing about the phone-hacking scandal in December of last year.

Under the headline They Huffed and Puffed, Coulson Still Standing Guido gave us the benefit of his inside knowledge:
With the news that the CPS won’t prosecute Andy Coulson, on the grounds of lack of admissable evidence, it looks like Coulson will stay in Downing Street as long as he wants, despite whatever the Guardian, New York Times, BBC and Labour will throw at him.

Coulson is as guilty as sin of condoning the News of the World culture, nevertheless it was pretty clear that unless documentary evidence was produced there would be no charges against Coulson. What has been a politically motivated attack by enemies of the Murdoch press was bound to fail without a smoking gun, however much they huffed and puffed.
Given that he was prepared to make an imlicit criticism of the News of the World culture, this makes Guido a better judge than David Cameron, Jenny Jones or Boris Johnson.

But in this case that is not saying much.

  1. So I said Coulson was guilty and "that unless documentary evidence was produced there would be no charges against Coulson."

Documentary evidence has been produced and there will now probably be charges against Coulson and others.

And your point is what exactly?

  2. Guido

    Sorry not to be clear.

You said "Coulson will stay in Downing Street as long as he wants". He resigned the following month.

That suggests to me that you have poor judgment and that your pretensions to having inside knowledge are unfounded.

You implied that the phone-hacking story was of interest only to the Guardian. It has now closed the News of the World and become the lead story in the news in the USA.

That suggests to me that you have poor judgment and that your pretensions to having inside knowledge are unfounded.

    Hope this is clear.

  3. We write 50 stories a week, you will always be able to find forward looking assertions that prove wrong. Well done. If I could be bothered to read your blog no doubt I would find similar. Coulson resigned when he wanted e.g. "Coulson will stay in Downing Street as long as he wants". He wasn't fired. The story was only of interest to the Guardian, it got next to no coverage in the rest of the press for two years. That all changed when the hacking of Millie Dowler was revealed. A statement made on one day is not expected to be held to be true for all time when circumstances change. I note what you say about my pretensions to inside knowledge and would direct you to that part of the blogosphere that claims I was (a) a tool of CCHQ and Coulson (b) funded by Ashcroft (c) a Conservative. Please tell them the same.
