Last week I wrote about the newly elected police and crime commissioner for Northamptonshire and his decision to appoint the Conservatives’ political assistant at Northamptonshire County Council as his 'strategic adviser'.
From the Shropshire Star comes news that Bill Longmore, the independent PCC for West Mercia, wants to appoint his election agent as his deputy on a £50,000 salary.
The Star, which reminds us that the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act allows PCCs to appoint a deputy, says the West Mercia Police and Crime Panel has delayed its decision because of concern at the selection process.
