Roman Lincoln

I was in Lincoln yesterday and had a look at some of the Roman remains at the top of the hill near the cathedral.

The Newport Arch is a third-century Roman arch and reputedly the oldest gateway in Britain through which traffic still passes.

The Mint Wall, believed to have been the rear wall of the Roman basilica, is (like Leicester's Jewry Wall) a rare substantial survival of Roman civilian architecture.
