John Hemming on preventing child abuse scandals

An interview from last night's Channel 4 News.

  1. I have already commended John's excellent contribution to the C4 News debate elsewhere. However, I do find it astonishing that there has been no serious comment from the Party and LDV have not mentioned the scandal and seem to pretend Cyril Smith has nothing to do with the Liberal Democrats.

By not dealing with the issue it simply adds to the view that the Party lives in a world of its own.

  2. I don't think any suspected paedophile can be protected by parliament or party these days - witness the charges brought against Nigel Evans while he occupied the Deputy Speaker's office.

Cyril Smith was a Labour councillor for most of the period during which his offences were said to have been committed.

  3. Smith was a member of the Labour Party from 1952 to 1966. Offences took place in EVERY decade. As did investigations. Still, what else are our carpets for.

  4. Sex and money both cut across party politics. One is the chance to be good or bad individually, the other one collectively.

Some people manage to address both issues appropriately...

Labour25 is a site that lists Labour paedos.
