Once Upon a Time in the West was the first rock video
So says Sir Christopher Frayling in this short documentary.
It may not be rock, but there have been other films where sequences were cut to the music. "Things to Come" is one (though the Kordas did subtly edit the score in spite of their promise to Bliss that it would be untouched). I believe that Eisenstein's "Alexander Nevsky" was another, but have seen no documentary confirmation.
In both cases, the composers had a substantial reputation apart from the movies.
