I photographed this wooden sculpture in front of All Saints, Northampton, this afternoon. It is one of half a dozen that stood in various locations around the town last year.
This one commemorates the Battle of Northampton, one of the major battles of the Wars of the Roses, which took place in 1460.
The battlefield, which lies close to various development sites in the south of the town, seems constantly threatened these days.
