A ride over Stainmore Summit in 1961
The line from Darlington to Penrith via Barnard Castle and Kirkby Stephen East was the highest passenger railway in England.
This film was shot in December 1961, a few weeks before it closed,
This takes me back. I left England circa 61. Spurred on by couple of Australians saying as how they would "flake out on their verandah " in Australia (in the sun). and there was a foot and a half of snow outside where I was -Kings Lynn..
Fascinating and great to see.
ReplyDeleteYes, the lady has a lovely voice - but please note it is a short i in Cliburn - as in clip.
