St Mary, Cromford

There is something incongruous about this late 18th-century church, which stands among stone outcrops and beside the River Derwent.

It was originally planned as a chapel for Willersley Castle, the stately home Richard Arkwright had built but died before he could enjoy.

He now lies in the crypt beneath St Mary's.

The church will come into its own when my plan to move Parliament to Cromford comes to fruition.
