Andrew Bridgen, the MP for North West Leicestershire, has been suspended by the Conservative Party for spreading misinformation about Covid vaccination.
Bridgen, who is currently serving a five-day suspension from parliament for breaking rules on registering financial interests, will lose the party whip while an investigation takes place.
The suspension follows a tweet that Bridgen sent this morning calling the Covid vaccination programme "the biggest crime against humanity since the holocaust".
Simon Hart, the Tory chief whip, told BBC News that Bridgen's comments had "crossed a line" and caused great offence:
"As a nation we should be very proud of what has been achieved through the vaccine programme.
"The vaccine is the best defence against Covid that we have. Misinformation about the vaccine causes harm and costs lives."
The consultant cardiologist is believed to work at another hospital, so you wouldn't know him.
To my amazement (and disappointment) I see that Mr Bridgen has a degree in biological sciences, specialising in genetics.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand we'll all end up looking pretty stupid if it turns out there are as yet unsuspected side effects of "the vaccine".
ReplyDeleteIncidently, which of the various vaccines are we taking about? Astra Zenica one of the MRNA vaccines or all of them?
Have a look at Bridgen's Twitter feed, Anonymous. It's about little else these days.
ReplyDeleteNottingham University Conservative Association was a big thing and many previous members are notable in public life for the wrong reasons. John Hayes, now MP, and Paul Mercer were regular attendees after graduating.
ReplyDeletePaul Mercer wanted to be a spook but nobody in the civil service wanted him. Wackos loitered around professional spooks when a controversial speaker attended -- spooks were pretty obvious at political events -- Mercer subsequently researched and published tripe for the usual nutters. Nobody would recognise the name Paul Mercer if he had not attempted to infiltrate Campaign Against The Arms Trade.
