Green Party names candidate for Haltemprice & Howden

Another Green World reports that, after some internal debate, the Green Party is to field a candidate in the Haltemprice & Howden by-election.

Her name is Shan Oakes and she writes on her blog:
I'm looking forward to highlighting the Tories' hypocrisy on civil liberties.
Isn't that what the Liberal Democrats should be doing?

Later. That is a bit glib. What we should be doing is pointing out that, while David Davis holds admirable views on liberty, there are many in his party who do not share them. We should also be exposing the way that Conservative taxation policies will favour the rich.

come off it David Davis is a dyed in the wool reactionary!

look at his opinions on LGBT rights, the death penalty etc...

All sensible Liberals as well as traditional Labour supoorters should back Shan, whilst Davis will undoubtedly win, a good vote for Shan Oakes would be great!

I agree Davis is neither a libertarian nor a liberal. He is a romantic Tory.

But then many Greens aren't libertarians or liberals either.

Most greens really care about the rights of future generations to access to the resources we are trying to deny them of by using so fast now. I think protecting our kids and grandkids is pretty libertarian as is wanting the wealth of the country and the world distributed a lot more fairly. It would be good to see Liberal giving Davis a` bloody nose here by voting green
