The worry for ambitious Liberal Democrats is not just that the plan Clegg announced to cold call 250,000 people turned out to be an embarrassment: it is that those around him were so besotted with the idea.I wonder who wrote it? Upon studying the site, I find it was me.

New Statesman article on Clegg's cold calling
The New Statesman website has an article on the Lib Dem robocalling debacle:

Surely you're going to write something positive about the Cleggster one day ;-)!
Yes. The bloke in the village who buys a fourpack of Stella for his breakfast told me he'd been rung, didn't like it and thought it was a bad idea. He said it rather trenchently and opined that our leader was a 'tit'. I will tell him the advisers were to blame.
Damn, Peter, and the chronic drunk vote is right in our demographic too!
Advisors advise but leaders choose them and decide who to listen to...
One of my customers was moaning about being called by him today too. I got the usual "why can't you put that nice Vince Cable in charge" refrain...
If I'd have known about this before the leader's speech I would have said something. Stupid, counterproductive idea.
After the Euro referendum cock up, the dreadful London results on May 1, the "about £30 quid" basic state pension full frontal exposure and the cold calling reprimand, it is surely time Cledd did something right. Anything?
Bloody Lib Dem leaders! Going and getting in the news.
Next thing you know, people will be talking about us!
What Clegg's done right:
* Make It Happen. Whatever quibbles I may have with it, it's mostly good stuff, and crucially tries to present our policies in a convincing way rather than trying to work out what voters will vote for and pretending to support that.
* The speech at Bournemouth (and the one at Liverpool, for that matter). Having the courage to be unashamedly Liberal in it, to highlight mental illness as a major issue, and to talk in terms of us needing to use less energy in future. Brave and correct.
* Letting Vince and others share what little limelight there is.
Anyone got other favorites? There's a lot to choose from, IMO.
