Liberal Democrats back all-women shortlists - LATEST
"Put on a decent suit, tie up your tie and sing the national anthem."
The funny thing is that I'm not in principle opposed to positive discrimination, but the appalling quality of the arguments for AWS have put me right off them.
One leading "CyberLib" actually suggested they would be a good thing because Lib Dem candidates would be more like the majority of the population. Presumably he didn't give any thought to the implications of that principle for minorities.
More white, straight, able-bodied candidates whose religion is agnosticism with a tinge of C of E?
Not to mention "We’ve tried everything else and it hasn’t worked."
In other words, apparently, the membership of this "liberal" party is so determinedly sexist that nothing short of compulsion will induce it to select female parliamentary candidates.
