The unusually named Bog Visitor Centre, is the old school house and one of last remaining buildings from The Bog Village, demolished in 1972. The centre is the only visitor facility for the Stiperstones upland region in the heart of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provides a wealth of information about its mining history, its people, and the current work to restore the surrounding landscape. Not to mention books by Malcolm Saville and on the Shropshire lead mining industry.
The centre is staffed by a team of volunteers, who have set themselves up as the Bog Visitor Centre Volunteer Group. Members of the group are from the local community and they give a warm welcome to visitors, providing tea and home made cakes as well as selling locally produced crafts.
The centre has its own website too. Which is good, because I am always afraid that it is a mirage.

We visit The Bog Centre regularly and always get a warm welcome.
The scones and cakes are very welcome as is the tea, coffee or chocolate drink. There is always something of interest to look at or books to browse. There is a good selection of greeting cards and some locally produced crafts. We have often bought plants as there are usually some on sale as well as the local honey and homemade jams and chutneys. We often go out of our way to visit the centre and look forward particularly to the scones with jam and cream!
