Introducing Clegg's children

According to Radical Bulletin in the new issue of Liberator (and I know of no more reliable source), the deputy prime minister's special advisers are known among disrespectful Liberal Democrat MPs as "Clegg's children".

John Wyndham is one of my favourite SF authors, though I liked the Day of the Triffids much better ...

They don't write that kind of stuff any more!

I wondered if that was from a film of the Midwich Cuckoos!

That's one of my favourite books of his, although I agree the Day of the Triffids is extremely good.

I wonder, though, - even at the time did anyone write stuff like that other than Wyndham?

A friend once remarked that the great thing about John Wyndham's books is that aliens traverse the immensity of space only to run into the British police of the 1950s.

"You can't leave that there flying saucer 'ere. All right then, put it round the back with my bike and hope the Sarge doesn't see it."

Douglas Adams updated it a bit. Britain had bomb sites in 1980 and Ford Populars, plus Ford Prefects (chrome bumper?).
