The great debate

I watched some of Mary Poppins this afternoon - the first time I had seen it since I was so high.

It is not a patch on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Yes, I am determined that Liberal England will be more controversial in 2006.

I once saw a USSR film version of Mary Poppins.. Unfortunately it didn't use many of the Russian phrases that I know such as "I'm hungry" so I missed out on a lot.
However it was a heaven sent opportunity for the Soviets - after all, the film is about a near-collapse of the capitalist banking system and the granting of the vote to women!

Let's face it, they are the classic children's films of the 60s. I give my vote to Mary Poppins ... because the songs are better.

So the score is 1-1.

I vote Mary Poppins because I used to find the child catcher scary in CCBB. I was easily scared (I still am).

Look up the list of goofs for Mary Poppins on imdb.com - they're quite funny.

I vote for Chitty Chiity Bang Bang because, like Valarie, I too found the child chatcher scary. But I'm voting for that scariness, it's just what a boy with a future in politics needs at a young age.

Although there was something to be said about Mr. Dawes Snr in Mary Poppins. Maybe that's why I took scary economics at University.

I thought you had scoooped me on this, Jonathan - Stephen gets closer!. Like all Lib Dem bloggers I know that only Dr Who matters. I will porbably vote for Mary Poppins too, but will consult my 7 year old first (we believe in votes for 7 tear olds, don´t we?)

Gosh you are bringing back memories. I loved Mary Poppins because of the songs never enjoyed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Got to be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for me. Much more exciting and I liked it because the child catcher was scary! The sequence where they become music box puppets is excellent.

Mary Poppins is far too nice. Just like far too many Lib Dems.

The conspiracy to impose Mary Poppins on Lib Dems is investigated here.

When were you "so high" and what did you take to get you there?
