Raising the school leaving age

My doubts about the new Liberal Conspiracy site were reinforced by an article on the raising the school leaving age to 18 which the site published today.

It was written by Mike Ion, the Labour candidate for Shrewsbury at the last election, and began:
I struggle to understand why anyone on the Left of British politics could oppose Gordon Brown’s moves, mentioned in the Queen’s speech yesterday, to raise the education leaving age to 18.
I think that tells us more about Mr Ion's lack of imagination than it does about the point at issue. I don't know if he is after a more promising seat at the next election, but I wish him the best of luck with his future career.

Still, Liberal Conspiracy has now published a good critique of Ion by Gracchi, so maybe there is hope.

And he links to another Conspirator, Chris Dillow, who has also criticised it on his own blog :)

And give him credit, at least he came out and admitted he was too stupid to work it out; he could have done an Ed Balls and claim it was impossible to be on the left and oppose it...
