General election on 6 November?

I don't want to alarm you, but Heresy Corner says:
The Evening Standard is reporting "feverish speculation" that Gordon Brown - egged on by "none other than his new comrade-in-arms Peter Mandelson" - is thinking of holding a snap general election on Nov 6th, cashing in his chips after single-handedly saving the world economy from meltdown.
It's true. The Evening Standard is.

Later. And so is the Financial Times.

Oh, well, at least it will be over quickly. And we're all equally stuffed.

Not going to happen...Brown has already committed to campaigning in Glenrothes...I cant help this is an invention by the notably Tory Evening Standard looking to win back some narrative...

Not to rain on anyone's parade or to deny that Brown could call a snap election, but for a general election held on November 6th, wouldn't Parliament have to have been dissolved today?
