This is not a comment on the guilt or innocence of Jimmy Tarbuck, but I have come across a piece of trivia that is too good not to share.
In 1960 Jimmy Tarbuck received two years' probation for stealing a cigarette holder belonging to Terry-Thomas.
You can read the details in a Daily Mail piece by Graham McCann from 2008. and Cook'd and Bombed even has a Daily Mirror article from the time of the trial.
It is interesting, incidentally, to see that newspapers were still printing street names in the form "Queen's-drive" as late as 1960.
