Welshpool features in Trivial Fact of the Day
Welshpool was known as Pool until 1835. Its name was changed to avoid confusion with Poole in Dorset.

Pool Quay, just a little downstream from Welshpool, being the head of navigation on the Severn. Though it would only be a small boat on a full river that got that far.
