The resistible charm of Boris Johnson

Today everyone is excited by the idea that Boris Johnson may be the next Tory candidate for Mayor of London.

This gives me the chance to do two things.

The first is to refer you to a posting by James Graham, made a few weeks ago, which explains why London local government no longer produces the big names it used to.

The second is to recommend Andrew Gimson's biography of Boris. Its subject is usually seen as a lovable buffoon, but he emerges from this book as rather a different character.
