The adventures of Lembit Opik

With James Graham in the grip of an existential crisis, it falls to me keep you up to date with the progress of the MP for Montgomeryshire.

The hot news is that Lembit has resigned as Lib Dem shadow housing spokesman to concentrate on his Presidential campaign. No shame there: Ros Scott stood down from her front bench position in the the Lords earlier this year for the same reason.

But do not despair: Lembit is not going all serious on us. He is to take part in a celebrity edition of Bargain Hunt. The Islington Gazette reports:

Socialite Tamara Beckwith and Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik - who recently split up with his Cheeky Girl partner - will compete at Criterion auction house in Essex Road, Islington.

High profile businesswoman Ruth Badger and former Tory MP Edwina Currie, who once had a fling with former Prime Minister John Major, make up the famous four.

Finally, Ronnie Fearn has disappeared from the list of supporters on Lembit's campaign website.

Lembit Opik would go to the opening of an envelope...An absolute walkover for Ros.

Still no Welsh on his site I see!

No Welsh on LO's site because he couldn't give a stuff about the Welsh language - just one of the reasons why Glyn Davies will beat him come the general election. Sian Lloyd gave him credibility on that front. But car crash LO just couldn't hack a sensible adult relationship and had to go misbehaving behind her back, culminating in the ultimate infra dig "relationship" - a Freaky Girl.....You couldn't make it up. He's been commiting political suicide ever since. And that's what we would be doing if we elected Liability Opik into the post.

I'm not having an existential crisis - I've been at a party conference in Manchester full of people having existential crises. There's a difference.

No worries about Lemsip taking the presidency - on his website he has 64 endorsements, whereas on Ros Scotts website - she has 604 and the voting doesn't close until Nov 7th. Perhaps he was a tad premature in stepping down from the front bench???
