David Taylor MP has died

From the Leicester Mercury:
North West Leicestershire MP David Taylor has died suddenly.

Mr Taylor was enjoying a walk with his family at Calke Abbey, in Derbyshire, yesterday when he suffered a massive heart attack.

He was taken to Queens Hospital, in Burton-on-Trent, but medics were unable to save him.
I am sorry to hear this: Taylor always seemed one of the more good-natured MPs and has strong local roots.

I have no reason to doubt his personal qualities but through his role as the Parliamentary representative for ASH he was largely responsible for ensuring that the smoking ban - which, properly framed, could have been a reasonable piece of legislation - was implemented in a draconian and illiberal way. Mind you, enough of our MPs backed it in that form too, to their shame.

that was one of several pieces of legislation he supported that helped improve the guality of life of those who live in this country

You miss my point, which was that the vast majority of the benefit of the legislation could have been achieved but without expelling 25% of the population on to the street (where far greater numbers of minors are now exposed to the sight of smoking than was the case before).
