Ed Davey: Lembit a better mayor than Boris or Ken

The Liberal Democrat leader's chief of staff has said that Lembit Opik would "make a much better mayor than Boris Johnson or Ken Livingstone".

Senior MP Ed Davey made the statement in an ePolitix.com podcast and also revealed that his party was now gearing up for a general election on October 25.

Since Boris Johnson announced his intention to stand for next year's London mayoral poll, speculation has been mounting about who the Lib Dems would put up.

Now the colourful Montgomeryshire MP's name is being linked with the candidacy by Davey.

I like that "colourful". I think we should all use it in future.
