Marion Thorpe, the second wife of the former Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe, died earlier today at the age of 87, reports Norman Lebrecht.
She is survived by Jeremy Thorpe and her three sons from her first marriage to the Earl of Harewood, a cousin of the Queen.
Last year, the composer's centenary year, she spoke to the BBC about her long friendship with Benjamin Britten.
