Perhaps the most remarkable result of Thursday night was Caroline Lucas's victory in Brighton Pavilion. It is hard to overestimate how difficult it is for a small party to win its first seat under a first past the post system.
Still I can't help remembering a posting on this blog from June 2007 which explained how Lucas had muscled in on the patch of the Green councillor who had made the seat such a good prospect for the party.
