Segedunum Roman fort, Wallsend, in 1975
Last summer I visited Segedunum Roman fort at Wallsend in Newcastle upon Tyne.
As I wrote then, the site of the fort was covered with terraced housing until the 1970s. Looking at the neat visitor attraction Segedunum is today, that episode in its history is hard to picture.
But this video (after the opening titles, which must surely belong to some lost sword-and-sandals epic) shows those houses empty, derelict and on the point of demolition - as well as a group of very 1975 young archaeologists.

Hehe, great video! The music is epic, and you have to respect archaeology in flares. :-)
