Citra is named after the single variety of hop that Oakham Ales use in its brewing. The result is a wonderfully refreshing beer that hits you with a burst of grapefruit flavour - much better than lager or cider on a hot day.
I have drunk it in bottles from Waitrose and, even better, on draught at The Lord Nelson in Oakham, which you can see below. It is tucked into a corner of the market place. Last time I was there the building housed a good, chefy but struggling restaurant. Today it is thriving as a pub with good beer and good food.
Despite its name, incidentally, Oakham Ales is based, not in Rutland, but in Peterborough.
