Christine Emmett chosen as Conservative candidate for Corby

Christine Emmett has been chosen as the Conservative candidate in the Corby by-election, reports the BBC.

She is a Conservative councillor from Rutland, representing Ketton ward, and lives in a former windmill. More about Christine Emmett on her website.

Her campaign has got off to a shaky start. The constituency's full name is Corby and East Northants, but some bright spark at Conservative HQ, as Cranmer shows, thought she had been chosen to fight Corby and North East Hants.

No, the constituency's full name is Corby. Just Corby. Not "and East Northamptonshire".

And certainly not North East Hants. Thanks

The proper name is Corby & East Northamptonshire, only 1/2 of the population of the constituancy live in Corby. When the constituancy was form it was from parts of both Kettering and Welingborough, and Corby formed a minor part of the constituancy. The population, ans size of Corby has grown since then.

No it isn't, Anonymous. The proper name is the one given to it by the Parliamentary Constituencies (England) Order 2007 and that is simply and only 'Corby'.

Anonymous cannot spell constituency anyway. He/she doesn't spell check obviously and has also made grammatical errors in his/her contribution. Corby was never a minor part of the constituency. It is the only sizeable town.
And lastly, yes the constituency is legally simply Corby, but the local Labour Party, and presumably other parties too, refer to themselves as Corby and East Northants to reflect the cultural differences within the constituency.
