Apple of the Day

The winner is Foxton Pride.

As the Leicester Mercury explains:
The small cooking variety dates back hundreds of years but only six trees are known to have survived in Foxton, near Market Harborough.
The paper also says that two other locally remembered varieties - Foxton's Delight and Foxton's Red Margaret - are yet to be found or catalogued.

More information at Foxton Seedy Sunday tomorrow.

It is sad to read (in the Mercury) the contortions that have to be gone through to circumvent stupid EU laws. Elsewhere, Somerset cider brandy is facing oblivion because it was left off a list of permitted spirits.
